channeling a lost boy

i've been listening to a lot of nirvana lately. so call me crazy, but i am really enjoying a nice plaid button down. could we regress for a moment & appreciate the new Fall 2011 mens line from Forever 21?

in other news, my absolute FAVORITE THING FOR SEPTEMBER is Suri's Burn Book on tumblr. The new blog for fashionistas & celeb gossip fanatics is an equal opportunity shit talker- no discrimination based on age or gender. This anonymous blogger poses as celebrity spawn & fashion enthusiast, Suri Cruise, making fun of like-minded peers such as Shiloh Jolie-Pitt & Louis Bullock all the way home. The blog had me in tears for hours with its playfully witty banter. Check it out!

you know i always love you. & that's all for now.

sara's f a v o r i t e things

well it's almost july... i really can't believe it. so to take a break from all of this poetry mumbo-jumbo that i've been posting, i decided to post my 5 absolute favorite things for the month of july. ENJOY!!!

1. OPI Summer Series Nail Color!!!

{spark de triomphe}

summer is the time of year to let your finger & toes free! so slip on some sandals & give OPI's new palette a try. since everyone knows that glitter is my favorite color, you aren't surprised to learn that "spark de triomphe" is my personal preference. but there are several genres to choose from, including a quad of designs by Katy Perry!
if you like this one, feel free to go to their website & try it on!

2. Hipstamatic app for iPhone 4

{digital photography never looked so analog- $1.99 on iTunes}

the hipstamatic application for iPhone 4 is not exactly new on the scene, but it's definitely making some serious waves. whether you're a serious photog or just goofing off with your friends, hipstamatic has an effect for you! just shake, point, click &- poof! you're a model.

here are a couple of my hipstamatic creations

{my friend maureen & me}

3. Starbucks Free iTunes 10 Song Summer Mix

{buy a frappucino & get one of these bad boys}

what more is there to say? you buy a $5 coffee & get $10 worth of awesome music for free! everybody wins.

this is my favorite track off the playlist, but check it out yourself & see :)

4. Anthropologie's "Vibrant Afternoon Hammock"- $98

{comes in blue & red}

i really enjoy lounging in my backyard hammock during the summer! & these beautiful products from Anthropologie are much more stylish (not to mention less expensive!) than any hammock you would find at an outdoor store. a perfect addition to the patio for the 4th!

5. Marcie Medium Shoulder bag from Chloe

{there's nothing i love more in the summer than a pop of color! also comes in red.}

could you just die?!?! yeah, me too. this bag is obviously way too overpriced for my itty bitty, post-grad budget, but it's still wonderful to look at. i can just see myself jet-setting to st. lucia & sipping cocktails on the resort balcony with this bag in tow! *pipe dreams*

hope you find something in here to enjoy as well! have a safe Independence Day- & remember to wear sunscreen, lest you burn your beautiful skin.

Part 2

Drowsy, contemplative moods
leave you stuck between worlds like window dressings.
Rich-timbred forces pull apart,
reproduce & deliver you here.
Unknowingly influential in your scholar gypsy stance,
like yew trees,
others take your words & thoughts to make their own.
You muse to a past life where hearts were king.

It was good to see you passing through
this land of lesser good.
Helping me seek loves labors
& finding that not all are lost.
Images of broken, bud-faced bodies
pool at my feel like the land of misfit toys
& take me to the lovely cloud
where all good music goes.

The ones who left before, too soon, collect,
Make space for you & your new life to shapeshift
back down to earth
one full rotation
& take me with you.

III. Tripp.

I write you letters with no means of delivery. Maybe pass on to worms like Euridice's dad.
I pray celestial stones don't dip you in the river of forgetting words, songs, loves, ideas.
What do you do?
No purpose but passing the time to when another reaches 10th dimensional ground
of paper punching holes in our real world with old, dull pencils.
Remember that self-control, rule & line only create false boundaries.

I push past the gates of my holding tank,
only to sit 'neath streams of ash you blew just last week.
I leave windows rolled down like you do for fear of losing closeness.
I know you hear our rack-screamings for you.
& untold stories.
& want out of new, half-strung rooms
to fly.

time travels

i wrote this about a friend of mine who passed away several months ago of a drug overdose. i know i'm not a writer, but somehow it felt very cathartic to put this down on paper. this is the first in a series of 4 poems. i miss you, tripp.

Straining the air for something to hold.
Firm grasps to dead grass
for fear of falling off this earth.
I double down, too far.
Your presence, much bigger than mine, in
size & vibe.
Your vapor, left me with nothing but rooms to fill.

You drove me on & let me down.

Names pout from my mouth like signal flares,
a whispered triad in time with white noises
of sweet fetal sleep in tandem.
Memories mist-drift to that last night. I kissed you.

I showed you my bruises.
You showed me your scars.

Stay with me in that place,
2 battered hearts strung together
with twine & wine-laced pirate cups.

i love you, ya ass. see you on the other side :)
